Manly, a northeastern district of Sydney, is a highly attractive residential location and tourist destination that welcomes around 6 million visitors each year. Following an increase in anti-social and violent behavior, Manly recently made headlines for all the wrong reasons. The Municipal Council therefore decided to install a security system. There are now more than 100 MOBOTIX cameras in place throughout the district. The video security solution was easy to install and configure, and proved cost-efficient for the Manly Council, as fewer cameras were required. The superior quality of the high-resolution images also makes it easier to identify individuals captured on film.

Thanks to their low power consumption and minimal bandwidth load, MOBOTIX cameras generally only require Ethernet cabling to set up a network and power supply. The Manly project was too large-scale for this kind of solution, though. Instead, fiber optic cable was laid to carry data back to the main NAS storage unit, and PoE was provided by means of power injectors, mainly using light posts as power sources.

The cameras we were supposed to use had to be able to withstand extreme weather conditions, such as high temperatures or severe rainstorms. This was one of the main reasons why we chose MOBOTIX. As a government agency, we are also concerned with finding an efficient solution that offers excellent image quality, even in poor light conditions. MOBOTIX impressed us on all counts. The cameras offer high image quality, and fewer cameras were required than would have been the case with a conventional solution. After more than seven years, the cameras have proved to be extremely robust, requiring little maintenance.
